Get Involved

Volunteer

Your time makes all the difference.  At Welcome COS, we believe that there is an opportunity for anyone to be tangibly involved in refugee care.  How do you imagine serving our new neighbors? Check out some opportunities below and complete our volunteer interest form. Someone will contact you for next steps!

  • Specialized helper: this fall we will begin training volunteers in specialized tasks.  This means that you don’t have to learn how to do it all!  You can become a specialist in affordable housing applications, benefits redeterminations, small group and individual English Language Learning, citizenship test tutoring, employment navigation/upskilling, and more.  And if you are already a specialist in something not on this list and think it would be helpful for refugees, let’s chat! As a specialist, you do not have to make a long-term time commitment.  You are welcome to offer your skills within your availability.

  • In-Kind donations drive: would you like to organize a one-time or recurring donations drive?  Does your church or small group have a heart for refugees?  Talk to us about ideas for in-kind donations.  You can collect diapers, winter coats, cleaning supplies, or other household goods.  Welcome COS will help distribute your items to refugee families in the community.  We may also contact Lutheran Family Services to identify needed items for newly arrived refugee families, and can help you organize the giving after your donation drive.

  • New neighbor teams: are you interested in building long-term relationships with our new neighbors?  These teams will focus on building friendships and meeting needs 6+ months after refugees have arrived.  Team members may help with English, cultural awareness, navigating everyday life in the US, and more.

  • Other: do you have a new idea?  Welcome COS focuses on creative ideas for refugee services. If you have an idea, contact us and let’s see if we can make it happen!

Please consider making a gift to help us launch additional services with Welcome COS.  Your gift will help with continued start-up costs, including a physical space, van for transporting clients to services, storage space for in-kind donations, and administrative/staffing expenses.

Welcome COS has officially received our 501(c)(3) status and we are setting up our banking information to receive donations. Until those processes are complete, Waypoint Church is kindly accepting donations on our behalf. Your donation will be tax-deductible if given through their website (click on Donate button to be redirected, then select Welcome COS from the dropdown menu).
